Notes
Rusty staggerbush (Lyonia ferruginea) is a shrub for borders, containers, and low maintenance or xeriscape gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows as an evergreen shrub or small tree with a crooked trunk and an irregular crown. The name staggerbush comes from that crooked trunk. The leaves are rust-colored underneath, and tiny white flowers attract butterflies and bees.
Pairs well with Wild rosemary, Sweet pepperbush, Saw palmetto, and Loblolly bay.
