Notes

Sugarberry (Celtis laevigata) is a tree for woodland, hedge, and privacy screen uses. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Birds eat the sweetish fruits, and the tree handles severe drought and high heat. Deer rarely make it their first choice. Its broad crown has graceful, drooping branches.

Pairs well with Willow oak, Witch hazel, and Little bluestem.
