Notes
Tabaquillo (Polylepis australis) is a large shrub or tree for specimen planting, winter interest, and container growing. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun. Its contorted shape and tan to cinnamon bark peel in thin sheets, which glow when winter sun shines through. The evergreen leaves are green to blue-green, and some turn red and yellow in fall. You can prune it to keep it smaller in a container.
Pairs well with Monkey-puzzle tree, Western redbud, and Karl Foerster feather reed grass.
