Notes

Alabama croton (Croton alabamensis) is a shrub for borders, specimen planting, and hedges. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, loamy or clay soil. It is evergreen with gray and silver leaves, and it handles drought. Small white flowers open in late winter, spring, and autumn, and butterflies and bees visit them. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Amsonia, Oakleaf hydrangea, and Green and gold.
