Notes

American spikenard (Aralia racemosa) is a perennial for borders, perennial beds, and woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to moist soil. Large, tapered clusters of tiny white flowers rise above big compound leaves on heavy, leafy stems. Purple-red berries add color in fall.

Pairs well with False Solomon's seal, Dutchman's breeches, and Sensitive fern.
