Notes

American water horehound (Lycopus americanus) is a perennial for rain gardens, pond edges, and wet woodland spots. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full shade and moist to wet soil. Tiny white flowers cluster around the square stem where opposite leaves join it. It blooms in early to late summer and again in early to mid autumn. It is a non-aromatic mint, so the leaves do not smell minty.

Pairs well with Lizard's tail, Frank's sedge, and New York fern.
