Notes

New York fern (Thelypteris noveboracensis) is a fern for woodland gardens, shade gardens, ground cover, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. It sits low on the menu for deer. Its soft, yellow-green fronds spread by creeping roots and can form dense colonies that crowd out other plants, so give it room. It also covers the gaps left by spring ephemerals.

Pairs well with Jack in the pulpit, Spicebush, and Intermediate wood fern.
