Notes

Bearbrush (Garrya fremontii) is a shrub for woodland gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil. Long silvery catkins hang from the branches in winter, and females bear berries for birds if a male grows nearby. It sits low on the menu for deer. Once established, it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Blue oak, Western redbud, and California poppy.
