Notes

Bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) is an annual for food gardens, hedges, and privacy screens. It is tender to cold, and the first hard frost will kill it. This plant likes full sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The creeping vines grow fast and spread 120 to 192 inches wide. White flowers open in spring, summer, and autumn, and hummingbirds and birds visit them. Give it a trellis or fence to climb.

Pairs well with Mammoth Grey Stripe sunflower, Oregon Giant pea, German Red garlic, and Red fescue.

Native range

Pantropical.
