Notes

Broomsedge bluestem (Anatherum leucostachyum) is a grass for low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. The seeds sit along stems that grow 2 to 6 feet tall. Fine hairs on the seed heads catch the sunlight in fall and winter. Birds use it for cover, nesting material, and seed.

Pairs well with Butterfly milkweed, Black-eyed Susan, and Tennessee coneflower.
