Notes

Carolina redroot (Lachnanthes caroliana) is a perennial for low maintenance gardens and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet, sandy soil. It has grass-like, gray-green leaves and creamy summer blooms. Its seeds are favorites of Sandhill Cranes, so plant it in masses to attract them.

Pairs well with Longleaf pine, Big bluestem, Fetter bush, and Blue flag.
