Notes

Chuparosa (Justicia californica) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and xeriscape gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. Its tubular red, orange, or yellow flowers draw hummingbirds, butterflies, and other birds. The branches are often leafless, and the plant may freeze to the ground but usually grows back.

Pairs well with Desert willow, Ocotillo, California brittlebush, and Creosote bush.
