Notes

Desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) is a tree for specimen planting, pollinator gardens, xeriscape, and low maintenance landscapes. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The fragrant flowers draw hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies, and long seedpods dangle from the branches after the blooms fade. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything.

Pairs well with Mexican hat, Prairie dropseed, and Rising Sun Texas redbud.
