Notes

Common manzanita (Arctostaphylos manzanita) is a shrub for hedges, xeriscape, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer usually look elsewhere for a meal. White or pink bell-shaped flowers hang in drooping clusters, and the berries turn from white to deep red. Dense evergreen foliage shelters birds and small mammals.

Pairs well with California flannelbush, James Roof silk tassel bush, and Showy beardtongue.
