Notes

Croton (Codiaeum variegatum) is a shrub for containers, specimen plantings, accents, and hedges. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 11 and warmer, down to about 40°F (4°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to moist soil. Its evergreen leaves come in brown, copper, gold, yellow, green, pink, purple, and red. The blooms are insignificant, so the foliage is the show.

Pairs well with Licorice plant, Lemon grass, African iris, and Yellow bells.

Native range

Southern India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
