Notes

Eastern waterleaf (Hydrophyllum virginianum) is a perennial for shade gardens, woodland settings, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part sun to full shade and dry to wet, loamy soil. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The leaves look stained by water, which gives the plant its name. It grows fast and can be an aggressive grower, so give it room.

Pairs well with Wood lily, Yellow trout-lily, and Swamp azalea.
