'Emma' johnny jump up (Viola 'Emma') is a perennial for borders, rock gardens, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy soil. The fragrant violet blue flowers have a burgundy splash below a yellow eye and bloom in spring and again in early to mid summer. Butterflies, bees, and birds visit them. It sits low on the menu for deer.
