Notes
Flowering grass (Freesia laxa) is a bulb for containers, rock gardens, and borders. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry soil. Clusters of bright scarlet red flowers with dark red markings appear in late spring or early summer. Bees visit the blooms. It may go dormant in a hot dry summer, so a pot is an easy choice in colder climates.
Pairs well with Elfin mother of thyme, Dazzleberry sedum, Millenium ornamental onion, and Shenandoah switchgrass.
Native range
S Africa and Mozambique.
