giant voodoo lily

Notes

Giant voodoo lily (Sauromatum giganteum) is a bulb for containers, borders, and shade garden accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun. Arrow-shaped leaves about a foot long emerge in summer. Burgundy spathes with burgundy-black spadices follow and look like sinister pitchers. For about a day the flowers release a fragrance that attracts pollinating flies.

Pairs well with Tuberose, Fountain grass, and Society garlic.
