Notes

Horse crippler cactus (Homalocephala texensis) is a succulent for borders, containers, and xeriscape gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy or loamy soil. It sits low to the ground and grows up to 12 inches across, with salmon-pink flowers that have feathery petal edges. It is not a favorite of deer or rabbits, though hungry ones will eat almost anything. Wear thick gloves near its stout spines.

Pairs well with Prickly-pear, American century plant, and Aeonium.
