Notes

Japanese pepper (Zanthoxylum piperitum) is a tree grown for spice, salad greens, and edible flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full sun. You can grind the dried fruits for spice and add the leaves to salads or stirfries. Plants are male or female, so buy more than one to improve your chance of getting fruit. Spines make it a good plant to site away from paths.

Pairs well with Chaste tree, Evelyn rose, and Blue star creeper.
