Notes
Leatherleaf (Chamaedaphne calyculata) is an evergreen shrub for borders, meadows, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, sandy or loamy soil. It forms a small, dense mound and often spreads into thickets. The dark green leaves turn purplish through the winter. Small, white, nodding, bell-shaped flowers hang from the upper leaf axils.
Pairs well with Royal fern, Balsam fir, and Honeyberry.
