Notes

'Maryland Dwarf' American holly (Ilex opaca 'Maryland Dwarf') is a shrub for specimen planting, hedges, foundation beds, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, loamy or clay soil. It grows slowly into a conical evergreen with fragrant, greenish-white flowers that attract bees, butterflies, and birds. Deer tend to browse other plants first. The plant also tolerates salt.

Pairs well with Witch hazel, Switchgrass, and Autumn fern.
