Notes

Parasol whitetop (Doellingeria umbellata) is a perennial for borders, meadows, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is one of the first asters to bloom, and butterflies visit the flat white flower clusters. It looks best in colonies, but it can become aggressive, so give it room. It sits low on the menu for deer.

Pairs well with Switchgrass, Late boneset, and Garden phlox.
