Notes
'Professor Van der Wielen' florist's spiraea (Astilbe 'Professor Van der Wielen') is a perennial for borders, cottage gardens, shade gardens, and cut flowers. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and average to wet, loamy soil. It grows 30 to 48 inches tall and 18 to 36 inches wide, with white blooms that attract butterflies. Deer and rabbits tend to browse other plants first. Plan on cutting a few stems for bouquets.
Pairs well with Fire Island hosta, Green Spice coral bells, and Cinnamon fern.
