Notes

Rice cutgrass (Leersia oryzoides) is a grass for rain gardens, pond edges, and wet areas that draw butterflies and birds. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes part sun or part shade and moist to wet soil. It grows up to 60 inches tall and blooms in summer and again in autumn. The flower clusters often stay tucked inside the leaf sheath. The leaves have sharp edges, so wear long pants when you work near it.

Pairs well with Broadleaf arrowhead, Interrupted fern, Tussock sedge, and Michigan lily.
