Notes

'Shortcake' winterberry (Ilex verticillata 'Shortcake') is a shrub for borders, hedges, winter interest, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to wet, loamy or clay soil. It grows 36 to 60 inches tall and has a dense, compact habit. Greenish-white flowers open in spring and summer, and birds visit the plant.
