Notes

Spring beauty (Claytonia virginica) is a perennial for woodland gardens, rock gardens, and naturalized areas. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to wet soil of most types. Pink or white flowers with darker pink veins open in loose clusters on slender stems. Bees visit the fragrant blooms. The plant fades from above ground after the seed capsules ripen, but it increases rapidly and looks best in large patches.

Pairs well with Yellow trout-lily, Wild geranium, and May-apple.
