Notes

Spurred butterfly pea (Centrosema virginianum) is a vine for borders, pollinator gardens, cottage gardens, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy or loamy soil. Violet flowers open in early to late summer and sit upside down on the stem. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms, and the stems trail or twine, so give them room or a support.

Pairs well with Blue sage, Amsonia, and Japanese forest grass.
