Notes
Water yam (Dioscorea alata) is a vine for naturalized areas and annual beds. It grows outdoors year-round in USDA zone 9 and warmer, down to about 20°F (-7°C). In colder areas, grow it as a houseplant or bring it indoors for winter. This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. It can climb 20 to 30 feet tall, so give it a strong support. Small yellow-white flowers appear on the vine.
Pairs well with Angel's trumpet, Lemon grass, and Giant chain fern.
Native range
India to Malay Peninsula.
