Notes
Winter hazel (Corylopsis spicata) is a shrub for borders, hedges, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average moisture. Lemon yellow flowers with red-purple anthers open in early to late spring and smell sweet. Bees, birds, and hummingbirds visit the blooms. Deer tend to browse other plants first.
Pairs well with Japanese holly, Queen of Night tulip, and Sarah Bernhardt peony.
