Notes

Yellowhorn (Xanthoceras sorbifolium) is a large shrub or small tree for borders, specimen plantings, and accents. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to average, loamy soil. Fragrant white spring flowers have centers that turn from yellow to red, and bees love them. The glossy leaves turn golden yellow in autumn. Once established, it tolerates drought.

Pairs well with Tree peony, Smooth hydrangea, and Cinnamon fern.

Native range

Central Asia and Asia.
