Notes
Smooth hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens) is a shrub for borders, pollinator gardens, shade gardens, and woodlands. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast into a clumping mound with white blooms that attract butterflies, bees, and birds. Deer and rabbits usually look elsewhere for a meal. It also tolerates salt.
Pairs well with Cinnamon fern, Bellwort, and Standing Ovation little bluestem.
