Notes

Alfalfa (Medicago sativa) is a perennial for low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 3, or down to -40°F (-40°C). This plant likes full or part sun and average to moist soil of most types. It blooms in spring, summer, and autumn, so flowers appear across much of the growing season. Butterflies and bees visit the blooms. The plant grows 24 to 36 inches tall and spreads 24 to 47 inches, so give it room.

Pairs well with Dalmatian bellflower, Shrub rose, and Ageratum.
