Notes

American beakgrain (Diarrhena obovata) is a grass for woodland and naturalized gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes part to full shade and average to wet soil. Green flowers with yellow anthers appear from early to late summer. It grows 24 to 36 inches tall and spreads 24 to 36 inches wide, so give it room in a rich woodland spot.

Pairs well with May-apple, Marginal wood fern, Tall bellflower, and Beaked hazel.
