Notes

Beaked hazel (Corylus cornuta) is a shrub for hedges, woodland gardens, naturalized areas, and food gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. The nuts have a hard shell and a slender beak, and squirrels, chipmunks, and ruffed grouse eat them. It tends to sucker from the roots, so you may need to thin it out. You can prune it anytime.

Pairs well with Staghorn sumac, Cinnamon fern, Sassafras, and Indian grass.
