Notes

Aster (Ampelaster carolinianus) is a vine for naturalized areas, rain gardens, and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It climbs 6 to 10 feet by tangling on its own slender stems. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Large, fragrant, lavender-pink flowers open in summer and again in autumn, and butterflies and bees visit them.

Pairs well with Big bluestem, Sedge, and Dogwood.
