Notes

Buckwheat (Fagopyrum esculentum) is a vegetable for food gardens, pollinator gardens, and low maintenance plantings. It is typically grown as an annual. Frost will kill it, so set it out only after the last frost in spring. This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It grows fast and reaches 12 to 36 inches tall. Fragrant pink and white flowers draw bees.

Pairs well with Winter squash, Soybean, and Broccoli.

Native range

Eastern Tibet to China.
