Notes

Catalina ironwood (Lyonothamnus floribundus) is a tree for borders, low maintenance gardens, and woodland settings. It is hardy to USDA zone 8, or down to 10°F (-12°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. It is an evergreen that grows quickly and keeps a good form. The red-brown bark peels in strips, and the glossy, fern-like leaves are divided. Large clusters of white flowers with yellow centers attract birds.

Pairs well with Santa cruz island buckwheat, Island tree poppy, and Century plant.
