Notes

Santa Cruz Island buckwheat (Eriogonum arborescens) is a shrub for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry soil of most types. Its silvery-gray, curled leaves stay on the plant all year, and bees, butterflies, and birds visit the flat clusters of creamy-pink flowers. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. You can cut and dry the flowers.

Pairs well with Big berry manzanita, New Jersey tea, Jerusalem sage, and Elfin mother of thyme.
