Notes
Caucasian wingnut (Pterocarya fraxinifolia) is a tree for shade gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and average moisture. It grows 30 to 60 feet tall and wide, so give it plenty of room. Green flowers appear in late spring and early summer. Plant it where its wide canopy can spread and cast shade.
Pairs well with Hornbeam, Viburnum, and Feather reed grass.
Native range
Caucasus, Iran, and Turkey.
