Notes

Coralberry (Symphoricarpos orbiculatus) is a shrub for woodland gardens, hedges, and ground cover. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist soil of most types. It spreads by rooting at the nodes where it touches the ground, so give it room to form a colony. Coral-pink to purple fruit stays on the plant through winter, and songbirds use it for food and cover. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Witch hazel, Cinnamon fern, and Little bluestem.

Native range

Eastern United States and Mexico.
