Notes

Dahoon (Ilex cassine) is a tree for specimen planting, hedges, privacy screens, and winter interest. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and average to wet, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. The glossy evergreen leaves stay dark green all year. Bright red or yellow fruit can form in great quantities, and some stays on the tree until spring. Birds, bees, and butterflies visit it.

Pairs well with Virginia sweetspire, Buttonbush, Red maple, and Scarlet rose mallow.
