Notes

Desert beardtongue (Penstemon pseudospectabilis) is a perennial for borders and low maintenance gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun and dry, sandy, loamy, or chalky soil. It grows as a bushy plant with shocking pink flowers and large, crisp, evergreen leaves. The bright blooms attract hummingbirds and bees. Deer tend to browse other plants first.

Pairs well with California poppy, Star of persia, and Heavy Metal switchgrass.
