Notes

Dragon arum (Dracunculus vulgaris) is a bulb for use as a specimen. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to moist soil. In early summer it sends up a three foot stalk topped by a burgundy spathe, and the flower smells unpleasant for a few days, so plant it away from your front door. It sits low on the menu for deer and rabbits.

Pairs well with Snake's head, Mondo grass, and Fountain grass.

Native range

Mediterranean and from Corsica to S Turkey.
