Notes
Snake's head (Fritillaria davisii) is a bulb for woodland gardens, naturalizing, and rock gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 6, or down to -10°F (-23°C). This plant likes part sun and moist soil. The nodding flowers are burgundy-brown outside and yellowish green inside, with checkered markings and upturned petal tips. They open in early to late spring above two broad, shiny leaves. Poisonous alkaloids in the bulbs deter rodents, and the plant naturalizes well.
Pairs well with Wood sorrel, Aureola Japanese forest grass, and Grape hyacinth.
