Notes

Mondo grass (Ophiopogon japonicus) is a groundcover for borders, rock gardens, and containers. It is hardy to USDA zone 7, or down to 0°F (-18°C). This plant likes full sun to full shade and dry to moist, sandy, loamy, or clay soil. Deer and rabbits rarely make it their first choice. It forms a clumping, evergreen mound of green leaves that stays 9 to 12 inches tall. It tolerates drought and salt.

Pairs well with Japanese forest grass, Autumn fern, and Oakleaf hydrangea.

Native range

Japan and China.
