Notes

Sanguine purple coneflower (Echinacea sanguinea) is a perennial for naturalized plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 4, or down to -30°F (-34°C). This plant likes full sun and dry to moist soil. It grows 18 to 48 inches tall and bears one rose-pink to pale purple flower head on each unbranched stem, with petals that often droop around a cone-shaped center. Blooms open from mid to late spring and again in early to mid summer. Deer rarely make it their first choice.

Pairs well with Prairie dropseed, Common milkweed, and Blue grama.
