Notes

European white birch (Betula pendula) is a tree for specimen planting, accent, borders, and rain gardens. It is hardy to USDA zone 2, or down to -50°F (-46°C). This plant likes full or part sun and dry to wet soil of most types. It grows fast with an oval shape, and bees and butterflies visit it. It is not a favorite of deer, though hungry deer will eat almost anything. Give it room to reach its full size.

Pairs well with Yellow marsh marigold, Red fescue, and Indigo bush.

Native range

Europe and Asia.
