Notes

Fourwing saltbush (Atriplex canescens) is a shrub for xeriscape gardens, hedges, and low maintenance plantings. It is hardy to USDA zone 5, or down to -20°F (-29°C). This plant likes full sun to part shade and dry to average soil of most types. Silvery leaves cover the mound-shaped branches. Showy gold-tan, four-winged fruits appear on female plants only, and birds and bees visit the plant. Severe pruning produces better specimens.

Pairs well with Big sagebrush, Blue grama, Yellow rabbitbrush, and Winterfat.
